The World Health Organization (WHO) defines healthy as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” The perception on health, and what it means to be healthy, is changing constantly. Health has often been viewed in the past as free of illness or disease. In 1948, when the WHO described health as “a state of total physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity,” this viewpoint also modified. And more recently, health has been seen as the capacity to respond to the stressors of life. People bring a variety of different views, desires, and interests to the table when it comes to health and wellness.
